Scrap Challenge

July's icebreaker was all about scraps - What do you do with them? Do you cut them into a particular sized square? Do you throw them in a bin never to be seen again?  Do you sort them by color?  Do you {gasp} throw them out?

Since we all have scraps (except that last group of people which we won't mention again!), September's challenge is SCRAP CHALLENGE.  Make a large quilt, a doll quilt, a mug rug, a pillow, or anything at all with your scraps & bring it to the September meeting!

September's meeting is on Tuesday September 25 at 7pm at the William G. Rohrer Library in Westmont, NJ.  If you're interested in attending, RSVP to southjerseymqg@gmail.com.  Visitors are always welcome!

Other agenda items include our first ever spotlight segment (on guild member Danielle) and our batting discussion!  Please bring samples of any batting that you like to use for your projects.

July Challenge - Quilt Con block

The Modern Quilt Guild is hosting Quilt Con in February 2013.  As part of Quilt Con, the MQG issued a challenge to modern quilters to create blocks in the colors of the Quilt Con logo representing what modern quilting means.  For the July Meeting, create a block in the colors of the logo (over there in the side bar ----->) measuring 12.5 inches by whatever width you'd like {seriously, that's what it says!}.  Blocks can be made in solids or prints.  Fabric bundles have been assembled by select online fabric stores or work from stash.  If you bring your blocks to the meeting, we can send them in together.  If you are submitting blocks on your own, blocks are due no later than August 15, 2012 with your block challenge entry form.

Elizabeth Hartman will be judging the challenge blocks and the winning blocks will be made into a quilt to be raffled off at Quilt Con.  Remaining blocks will be made into quilts and donated to the Austin Children's Shelter in Austin, Texas.
